The inaugural Scholarship of Teaching and Learning conference was hosted by TAFE Queensland, on Friday 31 March 2023, at the South Bank campus. Online attendance was enabled via TEAMs. In total, 51 in-person participants and 28 online attendees helped make the conference a success.
Keynote speaker, Dr. Susanne Francisco presented on the very relevant topic of workplace learning for VET educators. Six concurrent tracks comprised 18 presentations with authors including VET educators, Higher Education educators, professional staff and students. Two workshops were presented by the Dean, Higher Education Dr. Sharon Schembri. An interactive panel addressed the question of, “What is Scholarship of Teaching and Learning” and comprised of Keynote speaker Dr. Francisco, student engagement expert Dr. Anitza Geneve and Dean, Higher Education Dr. Sharon Schembri. Concurrent with the panel session, 22 poster presentations showcased the work of Environmental Engineering students.
An outcome of the conference is a published Book of Proceedings. A further consequence of the conference is the beginning of a research culture at TAFE Queensland.
