WHat is the fashion centre of excellence?

New World-Class Training Facilities to Foster Fashionista Creativity

The new world-class facilities at the Fashion Centre of Excellence, Mt Gravatt, play a vital role in setting up TAFE Queensland students for successful careers in the fashion industry.

While hundreds of fashion careers have been handcrafted from the South Brisbane hub since training first began over 30 years ago, we can now expect hundreds more since this significant upgrade to adapt to the ever-evolving standards of the global fashion industry.

The Centre has been modernised, has expanded in size, and all of its equipment has been upgraded to give fashion students the real world experience of working in an international design house.

TAFE Queensland Director of Creative Arts and Digital Design, Jackie French, says “the new facilities will improve on an already winning formula and continue creating a pipeline of new creative talent for years to come”.

Featuring state of the art interiors with flowing ceilings and a clean, contemporary space to accommodate exhibitions, parades and fashion events, students bring their creativity to life using state of the art Juki Industrial Straight sewing machines and bag making equipment for leather, canvas and heavy fabrics.

The gallery space for functions and fashion showcases is 338sqm, with the manufacturing and design space sitting at 1,431sqm and equipped with:

  • Two 3D printers
  • Laser cutting machine
  • Fabric printer and natural fibres printing
  • Full-Screen printing for large fabric
