Access, Equity and Pathways

Education transforms lives and communities and the scholarship of teaching and learning offers an opportunity to document and study this process and realisation. Across vocational and higher education sectors, education can drive social mobility, economic prosperity, technological innovation and community development. A fair educational system comprises equity in educational access and opportunity that effectively delivers on the jobs and skills needs of the broader community. Yet, core equity groups such as people with disabilities, First Nations and those from low socio-economic backgrounds, as well as rural and remote regional students may not experience equity in educational access and opportunities. Helping all students access, move through and succeed in education is an institutional goal evident throughout the vocational and higher education sectors. To that end, facilitating pathways between vocational and higher education is key. A highly integrated tertiary education system, with a commitment to improved access and equity for all, will encourage growth and development towards jobs and skills targets.

The 2024 Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT) conference is designed as a platform for vocational and higher education engagement where educators, researchers, policymakers and industry leaders are able to exchange ideas, share best practices and discuss the latest educational trends. Vocational and higher education institutions alike have a responsibility to well-prepare students for their careers ahead. Tertiary institutions also have a crucial role in fostering inclusive, equitable and prosperous societies. In striving forward to meet student and community needs in this regard, the following tracks indicate the intended conference program structure. Submissions are not limited to the below list. Papers outside of these stated tracks are also welcome.
